I’ll do “La Cucaracha” for my Chicken Tostada!

Chicken AVOCADO BACON TOSTADA SALAD

Live Action Quick Tips

Did you know….

This figurative cockroach described in “La Cucaracha” song may have been Pancho Villa, the revolutionary general, or Villa’s automobile, which was reputedly always breaking down. Alternatively, it may have referred to the gaggle of female camp-followers, soldaderas, who accompanied Villa and his men from battle to battle. Probably more likely, historically, is the claim that the “cockroach” was Mexican president Victoriano Huerta, who held office from 1913 to 1914. Huerta, a dictatorial leader if ever there was one, was ridiculed by his opponents as “a drunk and dope fiend who lived only for his daily weed.” Pancho Villa’s troops adopted La Cucaracha as their own song.

A typical stanza from the Mexican Revolution is:

Una cosa me da risa:
Pancho Villa sin camisa;
ya se van los carrancistas
porque vienen los villistas.

One thing makes me laugh:
Pancho Villa without his shirt;
Now the Carrancistas are leaving
Because the Villistas are coming. (mexconnect.com)

It’s Friday and it’s time to knock this day out so we all can enjoy life to ourselves and take a break on looking at a computer screen all day! Wooohoooo!

Today I decided to go and engage with an old time favorite “El Pollo Loco!

One thing I love about this restaurant is how they cook the food. I can see the cook grilling mountains of chicken on top of a long grilling oven with nothing else being cooked on there but chicken.

This makes me feel great because it takes away that fear of cross contamination of other meats being cooked together like you see at other fast food places.

The chicken is always grilled to perfection and has great flavor and when you combine fire grilled chicken with awesome flavor to a salad or a tostada bowl then you’re living the dream!

“Trev, you rarely ever talk about fast food restaurants, why today?”

Well my buddy at work JP mentioned that he went there earlier today so I figured I would give it a try since I remembered they had a great salad over there.

When I glanced at the menu, I told myself, “Self, It’s Friday! Why not put little more excitement in the salad and get a tostada! A salad with pizzazz!”

I agreed with myself and got the SouthWest Chicken Avocado Tostada which is nestled in a crisp flour tostada shell, filled with chopped romaine lettuce blend, pinto beans, rice, pico de gallo salsa, fresh avocado slices, fire-grilled chicken breast and delicious succulent bacon.

You also have your choice of Ranch, Creamy Cilantro Dressing or a Vinaigrette for the  sauce and it will be in a separate vile or packet so no worries on it being flooded with wetness.

One thing you will notice is how flavorful the bowl is even before you place the sauce on it so you may not even need to use a lot of it.

The pinto beans add a moistness to the salad already which the shell soaks in just enough to where it is not hard to break through the bottom while your ravaging through this appetizing meal.

The rice has a great punch of flavor to it as well, along with the succulent bacon and the finger-licking chicken which really makes every bite a pleasurable sensation to your palate.

I make sure to keep a bottle of Tapatio hot sauce at my desk, which I highly recommend for Mexican or Spanish dishes, and I added a bit of that to it as well.

I took a bite with my fork and boom!! A slight crunch from the lettuce with the smooth texture of  the avocado mixed with the pop of flavor from the black bean and then a creamy texture and pop from the pinto bean with a delicate fire grilled flavor from the chicken and succulent bite of the bacon. Yum!! That’s true live action eating!

If you have never tried El Pollo Loco then I suggest you try it. It is not greasy fried food and it will leave you completely satisfied! Good job El Pollo Loco!

Thanks for joining me on today’s adventure! I look forward to enjoying some live action eating memories with you this weekend! Keep hope alive!

Eating is an enjoyable way of life.Live it..Learn it..Love it!
