Rosh Hashanah is the birthday of the universe, the day G‑d created Adam and Eve, and it’s celebrated as the head of the Jewish year. It begins at sundown on the eve of Tishrei 1 (Sept. 8, 2021) and ends after nightfall on Tishrei 2 (Sept. 10, 2021).
The central observance of Rosh Hashanah is blowing the shofar (ram’s horn) on both mornings of the holiday (except on Shabbat), which is normally done in synagogue as part of the day’s services but may be done elsewhere for those who cannot attend.
Shabbat Shuva 2021 / שַׁבָּת שׁוּבָה 5782 Shabbat Shuva (Shabbat that falls between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (Shabbat of Returning)) for Hebrew Year 5782 begins at sundown on Friday, 10 September 2021 and ends at nightfall on Saturday, 11 September 2021.
Shabbat Shuvah (“Sabbath [of] Return” שבת שובה) refers to the Shabbat that occurs during the Ten Days of Repentance between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Only one Shabbat can occur between these dates. This Shabbat is named after the first word of the Haftarah (Hosea 14:2-10) and literally means “Return!”
