WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone on Thursday as tensions rise over a significant military buildup on the Ukrainian border.

The call began at 3:35 p.m. ET and lasted 50 minutes, the White House said.

The call, the second known discussion between the two leaders this month, was scheduled at Putin’s request. The Russian president has previously insisted that despite a massive deployment of thousands of troops along Ukraine’s border, Moscow is not preparing for an invasion of its ex-Soviet neighbor.

But Putin has laid out conditions for nonaggression: He has promised that Russian troops will not attack Ukraine if Kyiv’s ongoing bid to join NATO is denied. Russia has described NATO’s eastward expansion as a “red line” that poses security threats to Moscow.

Putin placed his cards on the table we believe ONE LAST TIME.. He said he won’t attack Ukraine if they decline Ukraine to join NATO.

CDC warns ‘avoid cruise travel’ after more than 5,000 COVID positive cases in two weeks

As clusters of COVID-19 cases continue to emerge on cruise ships since the omicron variant emerged, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned travelers against taking cruises.

“Today, CDC increased the Cruise Travel Health Notice (THN) to a Level 4, recommending people avoid cruise travel regardless of vaccination status,” the CDC said in a statement provided by spokesperson Dave Daigle.

The agency noted the decision was made as COVID-19 cases are increasing on ships, in the U.S. and around the globe.

Major flight cancellations continue as Omicron causes staff shortages

Airlines across the United States have continued major flight cancellations as the COVID-19 Omicron variant outbreak continues to cause industry-wide staffing shortages.

As of Thursday morning, 1,010 flights into, out of and within the U.S. had been canceled, according to tracking service FlightAware. Over 480 more had been delayed.

JetBlue will be reducing its schedule through January 13 by about 1,280 flights due to crew members out sick, a spokesperson for the airline told Reuters.

On Wednesday, a total of 1,082 flights into, out of and within the U.S were canceled, FlightWare said. United canceled 180 flights, Delta canceled 137 flights, and JetBlue and Spirit canceled 106 and 76 flights respectively.

An additional 6,023 flights were delayed, with the largest disruptions taking place in airports with international hubs, like Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle-Tacoma and Denver International Airport.

Earlier today, the credit card systems went down at Disneyland Paris, forcing Guests to use cash only inside the theme park.

According to DLP Report on Twitter, the credit card and bank systems went down at Disneyland Paris today, which forced Guests to get cash prior to entering the Park. The interesting thing is that this is clearly a common reoccurrence as DLP Report writes:

BEIJING — China will take “drastic measures” if Taiwan makes moves towards independence, a Beijing official warned on Wednesday, adding that Taiwan’s provocations and outside meddling could intensify next year.

China claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and in the past two years has stepped up military and diplomatic pressure to assert its sovereignty claim, fueling anger in Taipei and concern in Washington.

China was willing to try its utmost to seek peaceful reunification with Taiwan but would act if any red lines on independence were crossed, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office, told a media briefing.

“If separatist forces in Taiwan seeking independence provoke, exert force or even break through any red line, we will have to take drastic measures,” Ma said.
