NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed concern that Russia’s military build-up threatened to escalate into conflict.
“We regret that, despite the calls of the international community over many weeks, Russia has not taken steps are to de-escalate.”
“We need to be prepared for the talks to break down,” Stoltenberg added, “and for diplomacy to fail. And that’s exactly why we are sending a very clear message to Russia that if they once again decide to use military force against a neighbor then there will be severe consequences, a high price to pay.”
