Russia’s Defense Minister recently announced that Russia’s mobile nuclear missile forces are on high alert and that all the nuclear-powered submarines of the Northern Fleet and the Pacific Fleet have set sail.
These are the ballistic missile submarines (SSBN): 3 class Kalmar project 667BDR (NATO Delta III), 1 class Akula Project 941UM (NATO Typhoon), 5 class Delfin, project 667BDRM (NATO Delta IV) and 8 class Borey project 955
The nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines (SSGN): Class 6 Granit and Antey Project 949 and Project 949A (NATO OscarI & Osxar II).
The nuclear-powered offensive submarines: 14 (2 Project 945A – NATO Sierra II, 4 Project 671RTMK – NATO Victor III, 5 Project 971 Schuka-B, (NATO Akula).
And conventional cruise missile submarines: 18 (17 Kilo class, 1 Lada class), 14 Project 877, 1 Project 877EKM, 1 Project 877LPMB, 1 Project 877V, 3 Project 677 Lada class.
The Kremlin has blamed British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss for the nuclear alert.
Kremlin spokesman N. Peshkov said : “There have been unacceptable statements about possible conflict situations, and even confrontations and conflicts between NATO and Russia.
