A coronal mass ejection (CME) that left the sun on Monday, March 7, 2022, sideswiped Earth yesterday (March 10) creating an auroral display at high latitudes. Then on March 10, a long-lasting solar flare took place near the large sunspot region AR2960. It also produced a CME, and this one is due to strike Earth more directly on March 13. The estimated arrival time is 11:35 UTC (plus minus 7 hours) on March 13.
That estimate comes from the NASA ENLIL solar wind / CME model, used by scientists. The impact is estimated to be between Kp=5 to 8 or geomagnetic storm from minor (G1) to severe (G4).
Bottom line: A CME sideswiped Earth March 10. A 2nd CME, spawned by a flare near sunspot AR2962 on March 10, will strike Earth more directly March 13.
