Mariupol was permanently lost to Kyiv as under extreme secrecy the Russian Army gathered the leaders of the local communities of the city, who proceeded to vote for the election of a new Mayor and secession from Ukraine!
The development is said to have been confirmed by V. Zelensky, who was asked by a Ukrainian journalist about the fate of Mariupol. The Ukrainian president reportedly replied that “control in Mariupol was lost. Forever”.

In particular, the local leaders of Mariupol recognized the referendum of May 11, 2014, which was held throughout the Donetsk region, for the independence of the self-proclaimed local Republic.
The referendum explicitly stated that Donetsk was declaring its independence within its historical boundaries, which include Mariupol.
