Fierce clashes are raging in Donbas between Russian and US-British forces fighting on the Ukrainian side. At least in Donbas, the war has turned into a direct Russia-US / British confrontation.

According to Russian sources, a large force of Spetsnaz special forces has been deployed in the area, while snipers are “harvesting” from both sides.

The British Ministry of Defense confirmed this information earlier.

Moderna said Thursday that it had asked the Food and Drug Administration to authorize its coronavirus vaccine for children younger than 6, making it the first manufacturer to do so. A top official said the firm would finish submitting data to regulators by May 9.

The development, which was expected, could intensify pressure on federal regulators to authorize a vaccine for the nation’s youngest children. Parents of the roughly 18 million youngest Americans, the only population group not yet eligible for vaccination, have been increasingly vocal about their frustration with delays, and members of Congress have been asking the FDA why it cannot move faster.

Moderna has already requested authorization of its COVID vaccine for 6- to 11-year-olds and 12- to 17-year-olds, and a spokesperson said it would submit data supporting and updating those requests in about two weeks. At the moment, the FDA appears to be leaning toward considering all three of the company’s applications to vaccinate children simultaneously.

The World Health Organization is reporting that in less than one month nearly 170 children all over the globe have developed “unexplained hepatitis”…

Nearly 170 children with the unexplained hepatitis have been reported globally since the first case was detected in Scotland at the end of March, according to the World Health Organization. One child has died and at least 17 have needed liver transplants.

Leading virologists fear the real toll of the infection could actually be magnitudes higher because many parents may brush off the warning signs. If this was something that was just happening on the other side of the globe most Americans wouldn’t pay any attention to it. But that isn’t the case. In fact, cases have already started to pop up at various locations around the country…

Some 11 children sick with unexplained hepatitis have been confirmed in the U.S. in recent weeks, with nine cases in Alabama — including two that needed liver transplants — and two in North Carolina. If confirmed, the Illinois cases will take the total to 14.

#2 Japanese Encephalitis

I have briefly mentioned this before, but now the outbreak of Japanese encephalitis in Australia has gotten even worse. At this point, it is being reported that 11 humans have already been infected… Experts say Japanese encephalitis will impact pork supply as infected piggeries experience production losses of up to 80 percent.

There are now 30 New South Wales piggeries affected by the mosquito-borne virus and 11 people have been infected, with three deaths nationwide according to a new report. Japanese encephalitis is endemic in other parts of the world, but it has never been seen this far south in Australia. NSW Department of Primary Industries chief veterinary officer Sarah Britton said it had been a stressful time for pig producers. “They have had huge impacts on production — up to 60 to 80 percent of production impacted in some sites,” she said.

#3 Ebola

As if we didn’t have enough problems, now Ebola is back. In central Africa, at least two people have already died as a result of the latest outbreak… Ebola has claimed its second victim in the Democratic Republic of Congo amid a fresh resurgence of the deadly virus. Local health chiefs are now scrambling to contain the outbreak, which began two weeks ago. The first case — a 31-year-old man from Mbandaka in the Equater province — died from the killer virus on April 21. His 25-year-old sister-in-law is the second victim of the outbreak.

#4 The H3N8 Bird Flu

I have written extensively about the bird flu pandemic in recent weeks. In the United States alone, more than 28 million chickens and turkeys have already died since the first case was confirmed in the U.S. in February. But if the bird flu jumped into humans, that would be a worst-case scenario, because the CDC says that the death rate for bird flu in humans can be as high as 60 percent.

So the fact that the Chinese have just confirmed “the first human infection with the H3N8 strain of bird flu” is definitely more than just a little bit alarming… China has recorded the first human infection with the H3N8 strain of bird flu, the country’s health authority said on Tuesday (April 26), but said the risk of it spreading among people was low. A four-year-old boy from central Henan province was found to have been infected with the variant after developing a fever and other symptoms on April 5

MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Western countries are openly calling on Ukraine to attack Russian territory using the weapons they supply to Kiev, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

“We have already commented the other day on statements by British Deputy Defense Minister [James] Heappey about okaying Ukraine’s strikes on Russian military targets,” she said, “In other words, the West is openly calling on Kiev to attack Russia, even with weapons received from NATO countries.”

According to Zakharova, Kiev has taken this as a guide to action: over the past few weeks, the Ukrainian armed forces have shelled Russian border territories, resulting in casualties and destruction.

“Further evidence that [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky’s regime is not independent in its decisions and is completely dependent on external handlers,” a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out.

She also stressed that such criminal activity of the Ukrainian military against the Russian territory cannot go unanswered. “I would like Kiev and Western capitals to take seriously the statements of our country’s Defense Ministry that further Ukrainian provocations to strike Russian targets will definitely lead to a harsh response from Russia,” Zakharova pointed out.

Great military mobilization is taking place in Romania as American forces move and deploy on the Romanian-Ukrainian border to the side of Southern Bessarabia.

Earlier, Moldova abandoned neutrality and is now entering the war with Russia-NATO representatives offering assistance to Ukraine.

It seems that the US does not want to take risks if there is a Russian amphibious attack on Bunjak (N. Bessarabia in yellow on the map), followed by an attack on Transnistria / Moldova.

If that happens, then Ukraine will be encircled and Russia will border Romania again and will be within walking distance of Bulgaria.

If Southern Bessarabia is occupied after an amphibious operation, then Russian troops will move to Moldova and enter Transnistria, completely bypassing Nikolaev and central Ukraine.

Biden seeks over $30B in Ukraine assistance from Congress

President Biden is asking Congress to authorize more than $30 billion in additional security, economic and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine to help the country fend off the prolonged Russian attack over the next five months, administration officials said Thursday.

The White House says it needs Congress to approve just over $20 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, including $5 billion for weapons and other military aid, $6 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and $4 billion for the State Department’s foreign military financing program, an administration official told reporters on a call previewing the request.

Additionally, Biden is asking Congress to approve $8.5 billion more in economic assistance for Ukraine and $3 billion in humanitarian assistance and food security funding, the official said.

“We need this bill to support Ukraine in this fight for freedom,” Biden said in remarks from the White House Thursday. “The cost of this fight, it’s not cheap. But caving to aggression is going to be more costly if we allow it to happen.”

The massive $33 billion request is what the Biden administration says is necessary to help Ukraine’s military defeat a sustained Russian attack over the coming months and address the global impacts of the war. Officials believe the funding will last through the current fiscal year, which ends in September.

Implanting a microchip in pet dogs and cats and registering the owner’s contact information will become mandatory in June under the revised Law on Welfare and Management of Animals according to a new report.

Breeders and pet shops will be required to implant a microchip in dogs and cats before they are sold. The aim of the new regulation is to prevent owners from easily abandoning their pets, help owners reunite with lost pets, and reduce the number of stray animals put down.

“Implanting a microchip in pets leads the owners to have the determination and responsibility for taking care of their pets throughout their life,” said an official of P’s-first Co., a major pet shop operator in Tokyo. “Most of our customers understand [the importance of implanting a microchip].”
