Israeli Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yair Lapid today called on Israelis to leave Istanbul and other Turkish cities immediately and, if possible, to cancel their trips to Turkey altogether.
Israel has upgraded its travel directive issued on May 30 to avoid travel to Istanbul, in a move reminiscent of Ukraine.
Now the recommendation is not limited to just one Turkish city but to the whole country!
The Israeli government’s directive raises many questions as Israel admits that there are “multiple Iranian terrorist cells” operating in Turkey, implying that there is an “erosion of Turkish services” (or rather cooperation?).
In any case, the whole region smells of “gunpowder” and the Israeli move is a matter of great concern.
“Do not travel to Turkey”
Israelis visiting Istanbul should leave “as soon as possible, ” Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said Monday because of Iranian threats.
“Following the events of recent weeks in Turkey and following a massive attempt by Iranian terrorist attacks on Israelis during their holiday in Istanbul, we urge the Israelis not to fly to Istanbul and, unless there is an urgent need,:
do not fly to Turkey at all. “If you are already in Istanbul, return to Israel as soon as possible, ” Lapid said in a statement.
“Multiple Iranian terrorist cells operate in Turkey”
“These terrorist attacks targeted Israelis on holiday. They have deliberately chosen Israeli citizens to kidnap or kill them. It could happen to anyone. “It is a real and immediate danger,” said the country’s top diplomat.
A senior Israeli official told Channel 13 on Sunday that there were multiple Iranian terrorist cells operating in Turkey with plans to kidnap or kill Israeli nationals.
