The president of Turkey, R.T.Erdogan, makes an emergency trip to Russia to see B.Putin, just a few days after their meeting in Tehran.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a one-day visit to Sochi, Russia on August 5 to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, as announced by the office of the Turkish Presidency and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The news was broadcast in Turkey by the TRT network and in Russia by the Interfax agency.
The visit of the president of Turkey takes place at a very important time. According to Russian news agency Interfax, citing Peskov, the two leaders will discuss regional problems and bilateral relations.
But why while Erdogan-Putin last met on July 19 in Tehran, the Turkish president rushes to Russia again?
The first major topic of discussion for Erdogan is the Kurds of Syria and, more recently, Iraq. Erdogan wants to discuss with Putin a comprehensive plan to eliminate the Kurdish threat. In essence, Erdogan will beg B. Putin to give him the “green light” for a limited military invasion of NE Syria.
The second topic of discussion is Greek-Turkish. The Erdogan-Putin meeting comes as the Turkish drilling rig “Abdulhamid Han” will set sail for the Southern Mediterranean on August 9.
Erdogan wants to discuss Turkey’s full support plan in case a major crisis erupts with Greece and things get out of whack for Ankara within NATO.
It is no coincidence that there has been an increase in Russian reports in recent times about a Greek-Turkish crisis, which Erdogan is synchronizing with a new Turkish invasion of NE Syria.
Our assessment is that B. Putin will finally give the “green light” for an even limited Turkish operation in NE Syria, in order for Erdogan to take another step towards Eurasia.
It is precisely for this reason that Russia upgraded Turkey by giving it the Ukrainian Grain Export Center, the establishment of which the parties agreed earlier.
