Russian gas producer Gazprom said on Saturday it had stopped supplying gas to EU member state Latvia, accusing it of violating conditions for gas withdrawal.
“Today, Gazprom suspended its gas supplies to Latvia… due to violations of the conditions” of purchase, the company said on Telegram. It was not specified which withdrawal condition had been violated.
The move comes a day after Latvian energy firm Latvijas Gaze said it was buying gas from Russia and paying in euros rather than in rubles.

Consumer prices rose by 8.9%, the highest ever recorded!!
Inflation in the Eurozone hit the highest level on record in July, reaching 8.9%, preliminary data from the European Union Statistics Office (Eurostat) showed on Friday.
The result is worse than the expected consumer price growth of 8.6% and was far above the European Central Bank’s 2% target.
The index rose 0.3% month on month after rising 0.8% a month earlier.
Analysts mostly attribute soaring inflation to higher energy prices, which rose 39.7% year on year this month, after jumping 42% in June. However, analysts state that processed food and service prices have also surged, which may mean that inflation is becoming more widespread.
Food, alcohol, and tobacco prices soared 9.8%, while manufactured goods rose 4.5%. Growth in the cost of services accelerated to 3.7% from 3.4% in June. Prices excluding food and energy rose 4% year-on-year from 3.7% in the previous month.
In order to rein in the prices, the ECB raised the key rate by 50 basis points earlier this month, its first rate hike in 11 years, and vowed further such interventions in the months to come despite the risk of the economy plunging into recession.
Reuters experts predict a 35-basis-point rate hike in September and a combined 90-basis-points hike by the end of the year. The ECB is next scheduled to meet on September 8.

Residents across most of the country are being called on to save water and the police are making the rounds to ensure they are.
Most of France has now been put on drought alert in an effort to mitigate the impact of an increasingly devastating dry spell. All but three of the country’s 96 departments are encouraging or outright ordering residents to save water, the nation’s Ministry of Ecological Transition said on Thursday. The police have been tasked with monitoring compliance with the restrictions.
Like many other European countries, France has faced extreme heat waves and droughts this summer, which have prompted water restrictions to be introduced. Four levels have been designated: vigilance, alert (yellow), heightened alert (orange), and crisis (red).
“As of July 28, 2022, 93 departments have introduced restrictions beyond vigilance level at least in some part of their territory: 9 were put on alert, 38 on heightened alert, and 46 are in crisis state,” the ministry indicated.
The police are now routinely making the rounds to inspect local neighborhoods, according to media reports.
The TV broadcaster BFM said that law enforcement was trying to prevent locals from watering their lawns by “looking for the smallest jet of water.” According to Jean-Noel Rieffel, regional director of the French Office of Biodiversity, in most cases the police only remind locals about the restrictions but will take action in the event of repeated infractions. Violators may face a fine of up to €1,500 ($1,531).

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Health revealed developments on Thursday which it described as important and serious, in relation to the hemorrhagic fever in Iraq.
Hemorrhagic fever is a very dangerous disease and is transmitted by direct contact with infected livestock and by ticks, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Saif Al-Badr, told Alsumaria News.
Al-Badr explained that Dhi Qar governorate in southern Iraq witnessed the highest number of infections with hemorrhagic fever, with 113 infections and 26 deaths, and Maysan governorate in southern Iraq came second with 31 infections and three deaths.
Al-Badr also indicated that Wasit governorate in eastern Iraq recorded 24 infections and two deaths, and Babylon governorate in central Iraq recorded 24 infections and two deaths, while Muthanna governorate recorded 17 infections and six deaths, and Basra governorate recorded 11 infections and one death.
The World Health Organization (WHO) mentioned that hemorrhagic fever is transmitted from one person to another by the direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other body fluids of an infected person.
The death rate of people infected with Hemorrhagic fever virus ranges between 10 and 40 percent, and it is a life-threatening infectious disease, as it can cause damage to the walls of small blood vessels, resulting in bleeding with the possibility of impairing the ability of the blood to clot.
Authorities in New York said on Thursday the virus “represented an imminent threat” to public health across the state. Health Commissioner Mary T Bassett said the declaration would help health departments engaged in response and prevention activities “to access additional State reimbursement
San Francisco officials have declared a public health emergency as cases of monkeypox rise in the city.
The office of Mayor London Breed (D) said in a release that the declaration, which will go into effect on Monday, will strengthen the city’s preparedness and responses, along with expediting and streamlining available resources to address the virus.
The release stated that the San Francisco Department of Public Health had confirmed more than 260 cases of monkeypox, making up almost a third of the nearly 800 cases in California.
“San Francisco showed during COVID that early action is essential for protecting public health,” Breed said. “We know that this virus impacts everyone equally — but we also know that those in our LGBTQ community are at greater risk right now. Many people in our LGBTQ community are scared and frustrated. This local emergency will allow us to continue to support our most at-risk, while also better preparing for what’s to come.”
