Russia’s soft underbelly is on fire with the ceasefire on the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border already broken for the third time in recent days. Tajik forces have invaded nearly 5 miles into Kyrgyzstan, occupying areas and military positions while raising the country’s flag.
According to the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan there are 24 dead and 121 injured. Tajikistan has not released information on its casualties, but unofficial sources say at least 20 casualties (the number is likely much higher).
These are the heaviest clashes in recent years with Tajikistan using Bayraktar TB2 artillery systems while continuing to move armored vehicles and tanks to the border with Kyrgyzstan. A BTR-80 phalanx of the Tajik army was spotted near Isfana.
Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament has declared that if the invasion of its territory by Tajik forces does not stop, then there will be martial law and General Conscription will be ordered in the country
At the same time, Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations declared a state of emergency in the Batken region where most of the heavy fighting with Tajik forces has taken place.
Kyrgyzstan’s security forces are setting up checkpoints around the town of Batken, while citizens have been asked to evacuate the area immediately.
A total of around 120,000 Kyrgyz have so far been displaced from the Batken and Leylek regions of Kyrgyzstan due to the ongoing border conflict with Tajikistan.
