Moscow sent a message to the West and Germany with a targeted bombing of the German consulate in Kyiv. It is the first bombing of a diplomatic mission building of a Western country, something that shows an uncontrolled escalation.
The message certainly concerns arms deliveries to Ukraine as the German Army is set to deliver IRIS-T anti-aircraft systems in the coming days.
The German Foreign Ministry confirmed that Russia bombed the building housing the German consulate in Kyiv earlier today.
A building housing German consulate offices in Kiev was hit during Russian missile attacks, the German Foreign Ministry announced today.
No staff members were inside the building at the time of the attack, as work at the German embassy’s visa office has been suspended for several months, a German foreign ministry spokesman said.
The German consulate building in Kiev has not been used since the start of the war , the German Foreign Ministry added.
At the same time, the representative of the Ministry of Defense emphasized that Germany expects to deliver an anti-aircraft defense system to Ukraine very soon and to deliver three more within the next year, without giving exact timetables.
USA: Leave Ukraine immediately
At the same time, the United States embassy in Kyiv after today’s mass missile attacks called on American citizens to leave the territory of Ukraine, “when it becomes safe”.
“Russia’s continued strikes in Ukraine pose a direct threat to the population and political infrastructure,” the US embassy said in a statement.
The embassy’s announcement is as follows:
“Russia has launched attacks against Ukrainian political infrastructure, as well as government facilities in Kyiv and elsewhere. Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine pose a direct threat to civilians and political infrastructure.
The U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens to seek shelter in place and depart Ukraine now using privately available ground transportation options when it is safe to do so.”
On Monday morning, Russia launched missile attacks on Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kharkiv and other cities.
Poland: ‘Get out of Belarus’
Immediately afterwards, Poland also issued a statement. Polish citizens in Belarus should leave the country, Warsaw said today, as relations between the two countries grow increasingly strained in part over the war in Ukraine.
“We recommend that Polish citizens living on the territory of the Republic of Belarus leave its territory by available commercial and private means,” the government announced in a travel advisory posted on its website.
They check the shelters
Polish fire services are checking the condition of shelters in case the country is bombed and drawing up an inventory list, the deputy interior minister said today, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
While NATO member Poland has assured its citizens that its membership in the Alliance guarantees their safety from a Russian attack, events in neighboring Ukraine have brought into focus the country’s need to prepare for the possibility of a missile attack.
“We have 62,000 such facilities across the country ,” Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Vovcik told private broadcaster Polsat News.
Firefighters check the condition of these facilities, whether they are equipped and whether they are suitable for use. If not, we will take measures to adjust them.”
Vovcik said Poland is not under threat, but is preparing for the worst-case scenario.
“These are routine activities,” he said. “This action was planned long ago.”
The control process at the shelters will last two months.
Belarus: Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine prepare attacks
Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko accused Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine of preparing “terrorist” attacks and a “military uprising” in Belarus, hours after he announced the deployment of a “regional” military strike force jointly with Moscow .
“The training in Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine of militants, including Belarusian radicals, to carry out sabotage, terrorist acts and military insurgency in the country is turning into an immediate threat,” he said during a meeting with military officials, accusing the EU and the US as seeking to “exacerbate the situation”.
At the same time, Lukashenko accused Ukraine of preparing an attack against Belarus and that, as a result, Minsk would deploy a joint military strike force of Russian and Belarusian forces…
