Polish pipeline operator PERN detected a leak in one of two lines of the western section of the Druzhba pipeline, which carries oil from Russia to Europe.
Germany was hit for the second time as the main route of the Druzhba pipeline through which crude oil reaches Germany was hit.
In more detail, the Polish authorities have been on alert since Tuesday night, as a leak was detected in a line of the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Polish pipeline operator PERN announced this morning that the cause of the leak, which was located about 70 kilometers from the town of Plock in central Poland, is currently unknown.
The second line of the pipeline in Poland, as well as the rest of PERN’s infrastructure and services, are operating normally.
“At this point, all PERN services (technical, operational, internal fire and environmental protection) take action according to the algorithms provided for this type of situation ,” the operator said.
Late on Tuesday afternoon, PERN’s automation systems detected a leak in the “Przyjaźń” pipeline on one of the two lines of the western section of the pipeline – about 70 kilometers from Płock.
This is the main route through which crude oil reaches Germany.
At this point, the cause of the incident is unknown. The second pipeline line is working normally.
Other elements of PERN’s infrastructure, including the Pomeranian section, which transports crude oil flowing by tankers to Poland, and then also to Germany, are operating as usual.
PERN rescue services and the State Fire Service immediately rushed to the scene to assess the situation, secure the area and start operations.
