The President of Turkey, R.T.Erdogan accepted the proposal of the Russian President B.Putin for the creation of an energy hub in Eastern Thrace. The decision to transform Turkey into the largest energy hub in the region was agreed behind the scenes between Putin and Erdogan.
The EU, France and other countries may have immediately rejected the Russian-Turkish proposal but that matters little.
Turkey has cut off all contact with the West and serves the interests of the countries that belong to or will join the BRICS as well as the axis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The Russian-Turkish proposal for a gas hub in Thrace is neither so innocent nor so simple. Russia and Turkey want to control and supply the Balkan countries with energy. Bulgaria, Serbia, Republika Srpska BiH, Montenegro, Skopje, reaching as far as Hungary-Austria and, again, Germany.
To achieve this there are three ways:
- Whether Bulgaria agrees through which the pipeline will continue to pass. Consequently, the decision will be approved by the EU and therefore NATO, something unlikely.
- Either Russia and Turkey will blackmail the EU with a pipeline lock through Azerbaijan, TANAP, TAP
- Third Balkan War and redefining the zones of influence together with a new flare-up in the Caucasus.
- At the same time, East-Med should be buried by all means as it will be a competitor of TurkStream
For now, the Russian-Turkish axis is in favor of a lock on TurkStream in the middle of winter so that the issue can be revisited later under the weight of energy pressure in many countries.
But the big problem now for the West is Turkey and not Erdogan. The Turkish president has “turned the boat completely” towards Eurasia and this will not change even with a change of president. Therefore, two options remain for the West:
1. Turkey’s defeat in the Greek-Turkish conflict and the beginning of the process of deconstruction of the current state
2. Ignition of the Kurdish Issue in Northern Turkey. The preparations have already started in Iran and are continuing in Northern Iraq.
Our estimate is that these two will start at the same time.
