By activating paragraph 19 of the fundamental principles of Russia’s state policy, something that implies a global nuclear war warns former Prime Minister of Russia and current deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, once again raising the “thermometer” on the war front in Ukraine.
It is the first time that Russia has threatened to activate the Article that justifies the use of nuclear weapons by the Russian Strategic Deterrence Forces. Until now, Moscow has emphasized in every way that there is no threat that would justify the use of nuclear weapons. That changed today.

“The only solution is the final victory of Russia”
In particular, as Medvedev stated to the Telegram agency, the only guarantee to avoid a global conflict is the complete and final victory of Moscow in Ukraine, as otherwise a global war will break out, with the use of nuclear weapons.
“Let’s call a spade a spade. Western countries are pushing the world into a world war.
Only the complete and final victory of Russia will be a guarantee against a global conflict,” he said characteristically and added:
“If Russia is not expected to win, then, obviously, Ukraine will win. Ukraine’s goal in the war, declared by the Kiev regime, is the recovery of all territories that previously belonged to it.
In other words, their annexation by Russia. This is a threat to the existence of our state and the collapse of today’s Russia,” he said.
Medvedev concluded that such a possibility was a direct reason for the use of paragraph 19 of the fundamental principles of Russia’s state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.
“Who is actually planning a nuclear conflict, may I ask? What is this if not a direct provocation of a world war with the use of nuclear weapons?’ he said.
According to paragraph 19 of the mentioned document, the conditions under which Russia can use nuclear weapons are reliable information about the launch of ballistic missiles that attack the territories of Russia or its allies, the use of nuclear weapons by the enemy or other types of weapons of mass destruction on the territories of Russia and its allies, the impact of the enemy on critical state or military facilities of Russia, the failure of which will weaken nuclear retaliatory forces.
In addition, paragraph 19 mentions among these conditions an aggressive action against Russia using conventional weapons that endanger the very existence of the state, which Medvedev mentioned in his statements.
