For the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine, V. Zelenskiy is making a hasty visit abroad, specifically to Washington. This visit is expected to inaugurate a new phase of escalation in the Ukrainian war and certainly does not bode well.
The Ukrainian president will travel to the Capitol where he will meet with congressional leadership and the heads of the National Security Committees from the Democratic and Republican parties.
Then the American president, Joe Biden, will welcome his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to the White House. The talks between the two political men will take place in the Oval Office and will last a short time , as the French newspaper “Liberation” comments.
This ‘exit’ of Volodymyr Zelensky is taking place as today marks 300 days since the start of the war,” says a senior US official, adding that the meeting had been “locked down” on December 11 during a telephone conversation between the two heads of state and confirmed on Sunday.
It is recalled that the last time Zelensky visited the United States was on September 1, 2021, when the Russian invasion was a threat that only Washington and Kyiv took seriously. The Ukrainian president had also been welcomed into the Oval Office then, with Biden promising him that he would support him against Russia.
The new aid to Ukraine is expected to be locked in this meeting: Ukraine will receive Patriot air defense systems from the USA, SAMP-T, Crotale and Caesar from France. At the same time, the green light will be given to the Ukrainian Army for strikes deep in Russian territory.
This means that these capabilities will be given to Ukraine without public confirmation.
The meeting is so important that Nancy Pelosi has asked all members of Congress to be on Capitol Hill tomorrow.
Russia now has no other solution. It must strike quickly and with full lethal force before the new air defense systems are transferred to Ukraine and before the Ukrainian Army receives deep strike capabilities on Russian soil.
This means that the Russian leadership will review existing military plans as the final phase of the conflict approaches and the next escalation will be nuclear.
