The Alaska Volcano Observatory raised the alert level to advisory status for Tanaga Volcano on Tuesday following a series of earthquakes according to a report from Fox News.

“Earthquake activity beneath Tanaga Volcano began to increase slowly starting at about 1:30 p.m. AKST today. At roughly 8:45 p.m. AKST this evening, the activity escalated with earthquakes occurring as often as two or three each minute,” the office said in a Facebook post.

The largest of the quakes have magnitudes between 2.0 and 3.0, with initial locations at shallow depths beneath the volcano’s summit. “That indicates that we’re seeing significant unrest at the volcano,” John Power, a research geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey stationed in Anchorage at the Alaska Volcano Observatory, told The Associated Press.

“Whether or not this will lead to an eruption is something we can’t say at this point in time,” he noted. “But we are concerned about it enough that we have gone and elevated the warning level.”

Tanaga Volcano stands at 5,925 feet tall and is located in the western Aleutians. There are no communities or structures there, but Adak is about 65 miles away and could see ash fall.

The last known eruption for Tanaga was in 1914. If the volcano were to erupt, the biggest threat would be to aircraft. “It’s very different than what you would see, for example, in Hawaii, Kilauea or Mauna Loa, where you see these beautiful red rivers of lava flowing down the side of the volcano,” Power said.

Tanaga: A Filipino Treasure
As a Filipino poet, it is my responsibility be familiar with the Philippine culture. It is a prerogative to me to know the hidden treasures and precious heritages of my own country (especially the special features of its literature), to treasure them, to be proud of them, and to show the world their beauty and worth. And so as to accomplish this responsibility, let me introduce to you an example of Filipino literary heritage called tanaga.

Also called luwa in *Ilonggo, a tanaga is a **pre-colonial Filipino short poem that traditionally contains philosophical ideas and views about the world, events, people, etc. It consists of four ***heptasyllabic lines and traditionally follows an AAAA rhyme scheme (that is, the lines should end with same rhyme).

It was probably used by pre-Filipino elderly people as proverbs that teach morals to their young ones along with stories and myths. It was about to become a dying form of literary feature but is undergoing through a revival.

Example:
AAAA Rhyme Scheme:
Pagbuhay Ng Tanaga (Tanaga Revival)
Written and translated by Eladio Abquina

Sarili nating sining
Na kilanli’y nalibing.
Kaya’t akin nang hiling
Ibig dito’y, magturing!

(I point this to our own art
Where repute was took apart
So now this wish, I impart,
May it be fond to your heart!)

AABB Rhyme Scheme:
Tanaga 13: Bagong Buhay (New Life)
Written and translated by Yehoshua ben Peleh Shimy’onay

Ang buhay na kay Cristo
Ay ‘sang buhay na bago;
‘Di na tulad ng dati
Ang inalay sa Hari.

(A life to Christ is given
Is a life that is diff’rent;
No more same as the old things
What is offered to the King.)

ABAB Rhyme Scheme:
Luha sa Labi (Tears in Lips)
Written by Rogelio Mangahas; English translation by Shimy’onay

Bakit ako may luha
Sa aking mga labi?
May lihim ang makata
At musa yaong susi

(Why have these joyless tears been
On both of my lips so blue?
Poet has something hidden
And a muse must be the clue.)

AABA Rhyme Scheme:
Tanaga 3 &4 – Tagumpay (Victory)
Written and translated by Shimy’onay

Hindi sa kalakasan
Ni sa kapangyarihan
Kundi sa Espiritu
Ng Dios ng kabanalan.

‘Pagkat lama’y papanaw
At mundo’y magugunaw
Ngunit ang ‘Spiritu Santo’y
Ating wagas na ilaw!

(It’s not by human flesh’s might
Nor by its power to fight
But by the Holy Spirit
Of the Holy God of light.

For human flesh will falter
And universe will flicker
But the Spirit of Jesus’
Our Shekinah forever!)

Traditional tanagas were not given titles as they are to speak for themselves. However, modern tanaga writers may opt to give titles for them. Traditionally written in Tagalog, tanaga restorers promotes this poetry in foreign languages. A modern tanaga may also follow other rhyme scheme such as AABB, ABAB, ABBA,ABBB, ABAA, AABA, AAAB, ABCD, etc.

Yehoshua ben Peleh Shimy’onay’s Tanaga:
Here are the common features of my tanagas:
-They follow four rhyme schemes: AAAA, AABB, ABAB or AABA
-They all contain Hebrew parallelism (a must for my poems).
-They are written in Tagalog, having English translations and still retaining their syllabication and rhyme scheme.

*A Philippine dialect spoken in Iloilo.
**That is, before the Spanish Colonial Period of the Philippines
***Meaning, seven syllables

The Meaning of Numbers: The Number 777
The meaning of multiple number sevens such as 777 and 7777 is derived from it being a reinforcement of perfection and God’s unmistakable hand in the affairs of man. While many examples in Scripture exist, this article will review its role in prophecy, the perfect worship of God, and his complete correction of unrepentant sinners.

Multiple sevens (777, 7777) were involved in Israel’s victory at Jericho. It was the first battle God’s people waged, west of the Jordan River, to possess their inheritance in the Promised Land.

Seven Levitical priests, on the seventh day they and others circled Jericho, blew their seven trumpets each of the seven times they journeyed around the city (Joshua 6:4, 15 – 16). When the seventh circuit ended, the people shouted at Jericho’s wall and it miraculously came tumbling down! The Israelites then decimated all human and animal life within the city except for Rahab and her family (Joshua 6:21 – 25).

Prophecy and multiple sevens
Revelation is a fascinating book not only riddled with the use of multiple sevens but also representing the number 777 itself. The book, based upon the originally inspired Bible canonized by Ezra and the Apostle John, is the 49th (7 x 7) and last writing. It is also the last of seven major divisions of Scripture (the Law, the Prophets, the Writings, the Gospels, the General Epistles, Paul’s writings and Revelation).

Three sevens also are involved in proclaiming the arrival of God’s beautiful new headquarters city when his plan of salvation is complete. It is one of the seven angels who implemented one of the seven vials that contained mankind’s seven last plagues who shows John the New Jerusalem coming from heaven (Revelation 21:9).

The core of Revelation’s main prophetic events revolves around 7777. These events are kicked off by seven seals, seven trumpets and seven golden vials (Revelation 5:1, 8:2, 15:7), the last two of which are administered by seven angels.

Perfect correction and 7777
God promised to bless abundantly the Israelites if they obeyed his commandments and kept his special days of worship (Leviticus 26:1 – 13). If they refused to obey, however, and broke covenant with him, he warned he would allow sickness to spread among them and permit their enemies to not only rule them but also steal their food (14 – 17).

The Lord, if his initial correction failed to move the people to repent, promised he would begin a series of four increasingly pernicious seven-fold punishments (number 7777) to underscore his dislike of sin and his desire for repentance.

This first seven-fold correction attempts to break the pride of the unrepentant through a severe drought. The lack of rain is so severe that it renders the land uncultivatable regardless of the effort. Food becomes scarce and even the fruit trees are barren (Leviticus 26:18 – 20).

If people continue to rebel a second seven-fold punishment, in the form of the destruction of cattle and the inability to produce children, would come (Leviticus 26:21 – 22). If such sufferings still do not motivate his people to soften their hearts, then God brings a third seven-fold punishment in the form of wars, plagues and hunger (23 – 26).

If, in spite of the manifold trials received, God’s people still harden their hearts against him, then a fourth and most severe seven-fold penalty (7777) would be administered. Its fierceness will cause parents to resort to cannibalizing their own children. The cities will be destroyed and many will experience a horrible death. Those who survive are taken away from their homes (Leviticus 26:27 – 33).

The Tribulation is commencing..

Please repent, carry your cross daily and accept the free gift of Jesus Christ’s Death on the Cross for payment for your sins.
