Vladimir Putin will make a series of important statements this evening, the Russian media report.
“Vladimir Putin is expected to make statements from the Kremlin tonight,” Channel One reported, citing the Russian president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Earlier, in his first public statements since the upheaval caused by the Wagner group, its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed that his mutiny was not intended to overthrow power in the country, but to save his paramilitary organization from being absorbed by the Russian army.
B. Putin began his speech by thanking the Russian citizens for their endurance, then declaring:
“It was seen the high consolidation of society, executive and legislative power at all levels. A firm, clear position in support of the constitutional order was taken by public organizations, religious denominations, leading political parties, in fact, the entire Russian society.
Everyone united and rallied around the responsibility for the fate of the Motherland.
The armed rebellion would have been suppressed anyway. The organizers of the rebellion, having betrayed the country, betrayed those who were with them.
The vast majority of Wagner fighters are patriots
They were lied to, pushed to death, under fire, to force them to shoot their own people.
It was precisely this result – fratricide – that Russia’s enemies and the neo-Nazis in Kiev and their Western patrons, and all manner of national traitors, wanted. They wanted Russian soldiers to kill each other.
I thank those soldiers and commanders of the Wagner group who made the only right decision. They did not engage in fratricidal bloodshed.
The decisions were taken under my direct instructions to avoid bloodshed.”
Putin invited the Wagner fighters to sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense (and thus join the Russian E.D.), return to their families or go to Belarus.
“The promise I made will be kept.”
Putin expressed his gratitude to Lukashenko for his contribution to resolving the situation with Wagner PMC.
