In a follow-up on the locally transmitted dengue fever epidemic in Taiwan, the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Taiwan CDC) reported 215 new local cases of dengue fever in the country last week (July 25 to July 31, 2023).
The cases were reported as follows: Tainan City (167 cases). , Yunlin County (33 cases), Kaohsiung City (11 cases), Nantou County (2 cases), Pingtung County (1 case) and Taichung City (1 case).
According to the CDC, the local epidemic situation continues to heat up. As of July 31 this year, a total of 845 local cases have been reported, including 691 cases in Tainan City, 115 cases in Yunlin County, 32 cases in Kaohsiung City, 3 cases in Taichung City, Pingtung County and Nantou County. 2 cases each, the number of cases nationwide is the highest in the same period in the past 10 years.
The CDC says the domestic dengue fever epidemic continues. The public is reminded to strengthen the elimination of breeding sources and implement anti-mosquito measures.
