During a recent speech to the European Union Parliament and specifically to the Foreign Affairs Committee, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg directly admitted that Russia launched the Special Military Operation (SMO) to prevent a NATO attack.
While trying to present this as some kind of “victory” for the belligerent alliance, Stoltenberg essentially acknowledged that all this “bad Russian propaganda and disinformation” was in fact true.
The background was that President Putin said in the fall of 2021 and actually sent a draft treaty that he wanted NATO to sign, to promise that there would be no further enlargement of NATO.
And this was a condition for not invading Ukraine. Of course, Russia did not sign it.
The opposite happened. He wanted us to sign a pledge never to enlarge NATO.
He wanted us to remove our military infrastructure in all the allies that have joined NATO since 1997, that is half of NATO, all of Central and Eastern Europe, we should remove NATO from that part of our alliance, creating second class members .
We rejected it.
So he went to war to prevent NATO, more NATO, near his borders, but it had exactly the opposite effect,” Stoltenberg pointed out.
Stoltenberg even mentioned Sweden and Finland, arguing that Finland’s accession to NATO is “historic”.
However, this is not exactly true as Finland was already a member of the immediate predecessor of NATO in the early to mid 1940s and we all know how that ended.
Unfortunately, the political West does not seem to learn from history, so it is bound to repeat itself for the umpteenth time.
