The Return: Wagner’s elite forces have returned to the battlefield in Bahamut! – WarNews247

Some Wagner mercenaries have left Belarus and returned to the front in the Donetsk region, the spokesman for the Eastern Group of Forces of Ukraine, Ilya Yevlas, said today.

The Ukrainian official said that of about 8,000 Wagner fighters stationed in Belarus, some have left for Africa and about 500 are returning to Ukraine’s eastern front, mostly in the city of Bakhmut.

Russia’s defense ministry is renegotiating contracts with these mercenaries to serve as either fighters or trainers, Yevlas said.

However, he stressed that Russian mercenaries do not pose a “significant threat” to the Ukrainian military, especially after the death of their leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in a plane crash on August 23.

“These individuals are indeed among the best trained among the Russian forces, but their presence will not change the situation on the battlefield ,” Yevlas said.

The Russian mercenary organization was a critical component in the Russian invasion forces. They were mainly responsible for the capture of the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast in May.

After their revolt against the Russian government in June, many of Wagner’s fighters left for Belarus to provide training support to the Belarusian army.

Both Ukraine and the US later stated that the mercenaries were no longer involved in hostilities in Ukraine.

However, after Prigozhin’s death, reports appeared in the Ukrainian media that some Russian mercenaries began to leave Belarus for Russia.
