Marinated Pork Super Burrito - Marinated pork, rice, beans, onions, cilantro, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and cheese in a handmade tortilla

Live Action Quick Tips

Did you know….

The burrito made its way into the US in the 1900s. The first mention of a burrito on a U.S. menu was in the 1930s at the El Cholo Spanish Café in Los Angeles, though burritos had likely been making the rounds in the states before then. California is still well-known for its burritos, with the Mission burrito—arguably the most popular style of burrito in the United States—originating in San Francisco. The Mission burrito is wrapped up in a tortilla and then again in aluminum foil—this is the sort that is commonly served at restaurants like Chipotle, Qdoba, and Freebirds.

Once the US got hold of it, the burrito started to cross cultural boundaries. Now there are burritos made with Thai chicken or Chinese pork. Then there’s the breakfast burrito, a tortilla stuffed with eggs, potato, and bacon. The breakfast burrito fad, which started catching on around 1975, found its way into mainstream fast food restaurants like McDonald’s, Sonic, and Hardee’s by the 1990s. And the rest, as they say, is history.(

Spaghetti in a different way every day!!

Live Action Quick Tips

Did you know….

Although we think of spaghetti with tomato sauce as the quintessential Italian dish, tomatoes didn’t become part of the Italian diet until the 1800s. And the first recipe for pasta with tomato sauce actually appeared in a French cookbook from 1797. So the tomato-based pasta sauces we tend to think of as typically Italian – bolognese, pomodoro, puttanesca – are actually more recent developments.

Of these, puttanesca has the most colorful history. A spicy spaghetti dish of tomatoes, capers, anchovies and garlic, the name literally translates to “whore’s spaghetti.” According to popular legend, this dish was what prostitutes would cook while waiting on their next appointment. In actuality, a restaurant owner made up the dish after a group of late arriving customers instructed him to make pasta “facci una puttanata qualsiasi”, roughly translated as “make any kind of garbage.” The slang term for garbage is derived from the word puttana, which also means prostitute, giving the sauce its famous name.(

Meatloaf…Beatloaf..I love Meatloaf!

Live Action Quick Tips

Did you know….

Meatloaf was comforting during the Great Depression
The Great Depression was hard on the majority of Americans, with millions out of work, the stock market crash, and the Dust Bowl. With meatloaf’s ability to stretch cheap meat into even more meals by the addition of cheap oats, breadcrumbs, and other starches, it’s no wonder this filling dish gained even more appreciation in the hearts of Americans during this time frame. Slap Ya Mama Meatloaf Recipe:

1-2 lbs beef

1 cup onion

1/2 cup green peppers

1/3 cup bread crumbs

2 eggs

1 teaspoon salt & pepper

1/2 teaspoon cayenne

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1-2 teaspoons Pappy’s Seasoning

1/3 cup Ketchup

2 tablespoon brown sugar

2 tablespoon mustard

6 slices if bacon

1. Grab a big bowl and combine 1-2 lbs beef, 1 cup onion, 1/2 cup green peppers, 1/3 cup bread crumbs,2 eggs, 1 teaspoon salt & pepper, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1-2 teaspoons Pappy’s Seasoning and use your old fashion fingers to massage the ingredients like a potter molding a masterpiece.

2. In a separate bowl combine 1/3 cup Ketchup, 2 tablespoon brown sugar and 2 tablespoon mustard and mix with fork (This is your sauce!)

3. In a Pyrex rectangular dish place beef mix and shape ever so gently into a log shape.

4. Pour Ketchup sauce over meatloaf in Pyrex dish.

5. Place Pyrex dish in oven at 350 degrees for 55 minutes.

6. While Meatloaf is cooking fry bacon until almost crispy, place on paper towel to drain excess grease and then place on top of meatloaf in oven after meatloaf has cooked for 40 minutes.

7. Remove meatloaf and plate.

If you have seen the Christmas Story on TV during the holidays then you remember how meatloaf was a dish of hate for kids but a dish of love for adults.

Meatloaf to me is an American Heritage and something my Mom has cooked for me and my brothers and I’m sure your mother has laid this meaty treat in front of you as a kid as well.

It’s like you took Spaghetti meat and placed it in a big ball and then laid it out in front of mad hungry lions who will soon take a bite out of it. Something about tomato sauce and meat in a huge log pile just makes American’s happy. 🙂

Everyone has a favorite way of eating meatloaf and my way is with bacon on top and smothered in homemade tomato sauce.

My mom puts her southern foot in her meatloaf and adds brown sugar and mustard to her sauce which is her mad scientist ingredients that leaves you in an abyss of delight and confusion on how can someone makes something this good.

Is there MSG in here? Did you inject this with McDonald’s secret sauce?

Darn it! This drug of sinful delectable beef won again! I can’t win for losing against this tender piece of intimacy, she gets me every time!

Oh well. It is what it is. I was supposed to eat salad today (at least that is what I told my coworker when he asked me what I was doing for lunch today) but I ended up on a completely different path.

You see, I try my best to eat a salad at least 2-3 times a week for lunch, so that way I can gratify myself with more carb generous foods throughout the week. Looks like I failed that mission. (waaa waaaa waaaaaaaaaa…)

I tell you what though, living ain’t living unless you live by this quote by J.K Rowling which states: It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might has well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.

Now that’s live action living J.K. Rowling! Good quote!  🙂
