US President Joe Biden on Friday directly addressed his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, urging him not to “misunderstand” that Washington and NATO are ready to defend “every single inch” of NATO territory.

Biden’s remarks came as a response to a speech that Putin delivered earlier on Friday before signing treaties paving the way for four former Ukrainian regions to join Russia, a move the US and its allies condemned in the strongest of terms.

“America is fully prepared with our NATO allies to defend every single inch of NATO territory. Mr. Putin, don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. Every inch,” Biden said without elaborating about which specific statements by the Russian leader he was responding to. In his speech Putin, among other things, blamed the US for creating “a precedent” by using nuclear weapons against Japan in 1945.

Speaking at the White House, the US president stressed that Putin’s “reckless words and threats” would not intimidate America and its allies.

“Putin’s actions are a sign he’s struggling,” Biden said. He was referring to referendums that resulted in the launch of the formal accession process for the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions.

“The United States is never going to recognize this. And quite frankly, the world’s not going to recognize it either,” Biden said, adding that Putin “can’t seize his neighbor’s territory and get away with it.”

The US president’s statement marks yet another round of mutual warnings between Russia and the West.

Last week, the Russian president said that his country is now fighting “the entire military machine of the collective West” and emphasized that if needed Moscow “will certainly make use of all weapon systems available” to protect its territorial integrity and its people.

Moscow also made it clear that, once the former Ukrainian regions become part of Russia, it will consider Kiev’s military attacks on them as acts of aggression against the Russian Federation.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, meanwhile, warned Russia of “severe consequences” if it uses nuclear weapons on Ukraine. He has also said on multiple occasions that NATO would not tolerate any attack on “allied sovereignty or territorial integrity.”

While Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky admitted in March that Kiev was unlikely to become part of NATO, on Friday he announced that the country was filing an expedited application to join the military alliance. However, hours later, Washington said that it is “not the time” to accept Ukraine into the bloc.

V. Zelensky and some “hawks” across the Atlantic are determined to bring the Third World War and nuclear holocaust.

Ukraine is applying to join NATO in an “accelerated manner” in response to Moscow’s announcement of the annexation of four of its regions. Kyiv is now betting on joining NATO and activating Article 5 on collective defense.

So far, NATO has not commented on Zelenskiy’s request for rapid accession to the Alliance. This move naturally causes concern, as it brings closer and closer the direct conflict between NATO (led by the USA) and Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kyiv is seeking fast-track NATO membership after Russia officially joined the four former Ukrainian regions controlled (largely) by Russian military forces.

“De facto we have already run our course in NATO. De facto we have already demonstrated compatibility with the North Atlantic Alliance specifications.

(The specifications) these are realistic for Ukraine, they are realistic on the battlefield and in all aspects of our cooperation. We trust each other, we stand up for each other.

This is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. De facto.

Today Ukraine will submit a request to do this De jure. According to the procedure, which will correspond to our role in defending the entire alliance.

The office of the Ukrainian president issued an informative statement after today’s meeting of the National Security Council of Ukraine.

“Members of the National Security Council discussed the issue of the new attempt to annex the territory of Ukraine and the escalation of armed aggression by the Russian Federation.

Participants in the meeting discussed ways to deal with the aggressor country’s attempts to annex Ukrainian territories,” the statement said.

The statement added that “mock referendums” were discussed, while the Council discussed “the collective security of Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic area”.

The speech of the President of Russia, B. Putin, brings dramatic global developments. Three points in his speech herald the use of nuclear weapons.

B. Putin emphasized that:

• the United States created “doom” by using nuclear weapons against Japan at the end of World War II;
• he warned that he would use all means to protect the four new areas, i.e. activation of strategic nuclear weapons
• and revealed that the Anglo-Saxons blew up the Nord Stream pipelines confirming WarNews247’s revelations in the previous article. This is a “terrorist act against Russian assets”

This means that the military leadership has received the “green light” from B. Putin for the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

“This is the will of millions of people. That is their right. Their first right, enshrined in Article 1 of the United Nations Charter, is the right to decide for themselves about their own destiny,” he added.

This is where our great-grandfathers fought. All those who want to have the right to live are victims of the inhumane actions of the Kiev regime. We will build the infrastructure and increase security so that the citizens feel the full support of mother Russia.

At another point in his speech, Putin said that “we are ready for talks with Ukraine. We call on the Kiev regime to immediately cease all hostilities, the war it launched in 2014 and return to the negotiating table.

Kyiv must respect the choice of citizens in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson. This is the only way to peace .

“We call on Kiev to immediately stop military actions and return to the negotiating table, ” he added.

“We are ready for talks with Ukraine. We have said this more than once,” said the Russian president at Friday’s party.

The Russian president repeated the narrative of reuniting Ukrainians with mother Russia, but emphasized that he did not wish to proceed with a reconstitution of the Soviet Union, in terms of its pre-1991 borders.

Rapid escalation in the West-Russia energy war is brought by Moscow’s declaration that it has evidence of Western involvement in the blowing up of the Nord Stream pipelines.

It is the first time that Moscow explicitly mentions that the West blew up the pipelines and even has evidence of this “terrorist action” against “Russian assets”.

A while ago, Sergei Naryskin, the head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service SVR, said that Moscow has evidence showing that the West is responsible for the leaks in the Nord Stream undersea pipelines.

We have materials that show a Western trace in the organization and implementation of these terrorist acts,” he said specifically.

In my opinion, the West is doing everything to hide the real perpetrators and organizers of this international act of terrorism,” he added.

The fact that the head of the SVR made statements means only one thing: Escalation and retaliation.

Naryskin’s statement is the most direct accusation against the West by a senior Russian official on the case. He did not reveal what evidence Russia has.

Earth is set to experience a double blow from the sun as it is by two solar eruptions: A stream of solar wind from a hole in the sun’s atmosphere; and a cloud of charged particles known as a coronal mass ejection (CME).

On September 28, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) released an alert noting that a ‘moderate’ geomagnetic storm was expected on October 1. A geomagnetic storm is the name given to the disruption of Earth’s magnetic field by solar activity.

This disruption can have many effects on our planet and modern technology, including radio communication disruption and power grid issues. The SWPC said the storm could cause some high-frequency radio signal fading at high latitudes, increased drag on low-Earth orbit satellites, and auroras in some northern U.S. states like New York, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The coming storm will be partly due to a huge coronal hole in the sun’s atmosphere according to solar activity news website SpaceWeather.com. A coronal hole is a region of the sun’s upper atmosphere that appears to be dark when viewed in X-ray and ultraviolet images because it is cooler and less dense than the surrounding solar plasma.

These regions tend to have an open magnetic field structure, allowing solar wind—the continuous flow of charged particles from the sun—to escape out into the Solar System more easily and at high speed. As this high-speed stream flows through space it compresses the ambient solar wind—that is, the flow of solar particles that constantly moves through the Solar System under normal circumstances.

If the high-speed stream moves past Earth it can interfere with our planet’s magnetic field, typically causing effects that can last several days but are less severe in strength compared to other, more intense forms of solar eruptions like a coronal mass ejection (CME). (Newsweek)

The US Senate voted on Thursday to pass a funding bill which includes $12 billion in additional military and economic aid for Ukraine. Twenty-two Republicans joined their Democrat colleagues to pass the bill, which comes after the US has already allocated around $55 billion to Kiev since February.

The bill serves the twofold purpose of funding the government to prevent a shutdown at the end of the week and providing another mammoth cash injection to Ukraine’s military and economy. It would set aside $4.5 billion for the Ukrainian government, $3 billion for weapons and military equipment, and additional funding to replenish US weapons already sent to Ukraine and to allow the transfer of more arms from American stockpiles.

The US has already set aside around $55 billion to prop up Ukraine’s government and armed forces since February, including a $40 billion package of military and economic assistance passed in July. The latest bill is expected to pass in the House of Representatives on Friday before being signed into law by US President Joe Biden, at which point the US will have committed more military aid to any foreign country in a year since the Vietnam War.

The bill passed by 72 votes to 25, with 22 Republicans crossing party lines to ensure its easy passage in the evenly-divided Senate.

While former President Donald Trump has accused the Biden administration of risking the outbreak of “World War III” by pouring weapons into an active conflict with a nuclear power, the Republican establishment does not share his caution.

“Assisting Ukraine is not some feel-good, symbolic gesture. It’s literally an investment in our own national security and that of our allies,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who backed the bill, said before Thursday’s vote. McConnell did not explain the relation between Ukraine’s national security and America’s.

According to a list released by the Pentagon on Wednesday, the US has delivered $16.9 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine since February. This list includes 16 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), over 150 artillery pieces, tens of thousands of anti-tank missiles and nearly a million artillery shells.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed two decrees recognizing the former Ukrainian regions, Kherson and Zaporozhye, as independent sovereign states. The decrees come into force immediately.

“Recognize the state sovereignty and independence” of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions “effective from the day of signing,” say the two decrees dated and signed September 29. In the documents, the head of state refers to the universally recognized principles and norms of international law, the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, enshrined in the UN Charter.

The move comes on the eve of the official ceremony where the Russian president is expected to sign the treaties on incorporating Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as the two Donbass republics, into Russia.

Referendums on joining Russia were held in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), as well as in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions between September 23 and 27.

In the Kherson region, 87.05% voted in favor of declaring independence and joining the Russian Federation. Zaporozhye Region highly supported the idea of splitting from Ukraine and joining Russia, with 93,23% of voters backing it. In the DPR, 99.23% of those who voted were in favor, while LPR showed a slightly lower figure of 98.42%.

After Putin signs the treaties on the accession of new regions into Russia, the documents will be submitted to Russia’s Constitutional Court. After that, the State Duma – the lower house of the Russian parliament – will have to ratify the agreements, which will then be sent to the Federal Council, its upper house, for the same procedure.

The Donbass republics as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye may become a part of Russia no sooner than the lawmakers pass a new legislation on their incorporation, and the correspoding law is signed by Putin.

In February 2022, the Kremlin recognized the Donbass republics as independent states, accusing Kiev of failing to implement the Minsk agreements, which were supposed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within Ukraine. Brokered by Germany and France, the protocols were first signed in 2014.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24, citing the need to protect Donbass. It also demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked.

During the conflict, Russian forces seized the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Since then, the local authorities repeatedly mulled the idea of joining Russia, before eventually holding the referendums in September.

The People’s Bank of China has told major state-run banks to prepare to shed dollar holdings while snapping up offshore yuan, which has continued to fall despite prior interventions, sources told Reuters.

The scale of this latest effort to prop up the yuan will be big and could provide a floor to the Chinese currency, according to the report.

The amount of dollars to be sold hasn’t been decided yet, but Reuters said it will primarily involve the state banks’ currency reserves. Their offshore branches, including those based in Hong Kong, New York and London, were ordered to review offshore yuan holdings and check to see that dollar reserves are ready.

On Thursday, the yuan fell 0.9% to 7.1340 against the dollar and is on track for its worst annual decline since 1994, having lost more than 11% so far this year. Earlier this week, China’s offshore yuan this week depreciated to a record-low against the greenback, and its domestic unit fell to its weakest level since the 2008 financial crisis.

The Federal Reserve’s hawkish policy path has bolstered the dollar to 20-year highs this year, putting pressure on other central banks and triggering a “reverse currency war.”

While a weaker currency can sometimes be beneficial, as it means exports get cheaper, the yuan’s recent decline below the psychological threshold of 7-per-dollar has raised concerns.

The People’s Bank of China has consistently imposed a strong bias to its currency reference rate to help support the yuan. Central bank officials have also issued verbal warnings against speculating on the yuan and increased the cost of shorting the currency.

But it has refrained from raising benchmark rates and instead has been easing them in an effort to spark growth in an economy that’s been dragged down by COVID-19 lockdowns, a real estate crash, and supply chain snags.
