Israel’s military is pumping seawater with the aim of channeling it into the tunnels where Hamas terrorists are located under Gaza.
Israel has built seawater pumps near the Al-Sati refugee camp to potentially flood Hamas’ network of tunnels under the Gaza Strip.
Israel’s military has completed the installation of at least five pumps about a mile north of the refugee camp that could deliver thousands of cubic meters of water per hour, flooding the tunnels within weeks.
The plan, US officials have been told, raises questions about its effectiveness and potential environmental impact.
Drawing parallels with Egypt’s similar effort in 2015, concerns have been raised about water pollution, damage to infrastructure and health risks, prompting reservations about the potential venture.
A new video shows an underground tunnel flooding as a Hamas soldier captured footage showing the water flowing over him.
